I'm a lil late on this post, but Block 4 is officially in the books! 📚🤓 Can't say that I'm not happy to put 5 weeks of muscles, attachments, actions, compartments, innervations, blood supply, and blah blah blahh behind me. I learned a lot (even made a diagnosis during an OSCE for the first time based on the MSK physical exam we learned from PM&R residents at the VA, which was funn!), but overall, the material just wasn't my favorite style of learning since I'm pretty conceptual and I'm excited to move on to something new! Can't believe that I'm done with 4/5 blocks of first year already, time is moving so fast!! Next block is going to be neuro! 🙇🏾‍♀️

Just Mondaying, don't mind me☕️😴

Last week was allll of the viruses, and this week, we get started on bacteria📚🤓 Micro is lots to learn, but I'm loving the change of pace from first year. Since we're finished with anatomy & histo, they give us independent study days instead of labs on certain days of the week. I'm a pretty independent learner & I enjoy self teaching, sooo those days are a serious 🎁!! This week, I have not one, but two of those to look forward to. I'll also be getting away this weekend with some friends🌊🌞What are you looking forward to this week?

Debuting the latest in scrub fashion for yaaa on this beautiful Monday, this chic organ vest❗️😂🤣Totally kidding, but this was such a great tool to teach the kiddies at anatomy academy. It even had the kidneys on the back of it! hahaa •

{p.s. you've probs noticed that an organ in missing. yes, the heart is dramatically placed in my hand lololll}

The final for this block's mash up of microbiology, heme/onc, dermatology, and ophthalmology is next Friday! Haven't been totally on my game the past few weeks (#noregrets doeee, gotta live live sometimes!!), so time to buckle down & hit these books📚🤓

When the only yoga pose you feel comfortable showing the world is shavasana (aka corpse pose) so you try a random thing with a nearby tree 🌴

“A river cuts through rock not because of its power, but because of its persistence.”

My parents are immigrants who grew up in impoverished, rural Jamaica. By coming to the United States and building a new life here, they gave my siblings and I a gift they never had, the opportunity to pursue our dreams.

The stories of their childhoods were a huge part of my upbringing and inspired my path into medicine. It just never seemed right to me that the circumstances people are born into determine whether their basic life needs, like health are met.

As a future physician, my goals are to combat the health disparities that cause people to die sooner and experience lower quality of life simply because of the box they check under race, socioeconomic status, education, or sexual identity. I joined the helping profession to serve and to heal, and I hope to bridge the gaps that disadvantage certain groups in out population.

~life update~ 1️⃣Somehow we're already on week SEVEN on the block 😱 Time really is flying by. We've moved on from microbes to heme/onc & although I'm liking the change of pace, I'm praying I don't forget all that I learned about those bugs! hahaa • 2️⃣Psa in case you weren't already aware, pharm is the bane of my existence. I've been putting off learning the drugs for this block and I really have to buckle down! I have this bad habit of cramming pharm rightt before the exam, which goes great for the purposes of the test, but terrible otherwise. I actually have to start learning them well at some point! • 3️⃣Brewing my own kombucha has been going really well! I love being able to create my own flavors, having so much of it stored up, and most of all, saving money because I was buying A LOT of it. • 4️⃣I'm still mourning the end of the last Game of Thrones season and now Insecure is over too😭😭😭 I don't watch much tv, but I'm emotionally attached to the shows I do watch hahaa Anyone else like that!? • 5️⃣I just realized that I let my tea go cold (again) while writing this🤣 I guess that's all for now!! Back to studying these lymphomas📚🤓💉 What's been going on in your life!?⬇️
