There is something in the water, because Filipino babies are just the absolute cutest. I always get asked what speciality I'd like to be in someday and my answer automatically defaults to either OB/GYN or peds. The thought of spending my whole career seeing faces like these is the driving force for everything I do.
Hustle. Driven. Determined. Fierce. Tough. Smart. Compassionate. Loyal. We don't meet people by accident. They are meant to cross our path for a reason. #CherokeeUniforms and @thekatieduke met over 4 years ago and from that first day when she stepped off the plane here in Los Angeles, we knew she would forever be a part of our family.
Don't wait for anyone to tell you it's ok to go get what you want, or who you want, and don't wait for anyone to give you what you need. Be one of those people who get up every day and work for it. Be the woman that validates herself. Be the provider who puts the patient first. Be the human that makes a difference in the lives of others.

So there is officially only 9 days left of the semester and I KNOW FOR A FACT that I am not the only person who is lacking so much motivation at this point because I know we are all ABSOLUTELY over this semester! With that being said here are some things I do to help reorganize myself and get back into study mode when I find myself slacking.
1. Put my phone downstairs charging on the counter and go upstairs to my bed and study. My phone, as most people will agree, is the biggest distractor ever because I'm a social media junkie and I love keeping in touch with all my social media family!
2. Take some time out of the week and completely give all my attention to my family so that I can stay focused the rest of the week. Try to meet their needs and wants all in one weekend so when the weekdays come, you can go back to your grind time.
3. Make myself a huge cup of coffee and lock myself in my room, just me, my coffee and my Mac laptop.
4. Go work out prior to studying. It relieves stress, it gets your adrenaline pumping and it honestly helps restart your motivation for some reason. (Well, at least it does for me). 5. Make yourself a goal, (for instance, study 2 chapters, in thorough, a day) because it makes it so much easier to complete when you know you have a goal that needs to be met.
And lastly, don't forget to take breaks because it does get boring to study straight through for hours on end! And ALWAYS ALWAYS reward yourself, whether it be with a treat or a night out or a promise to celebrate once the semester is over. No matter what it is, always be proud of how far you have come, the end is near, don't give up quite yet 😘💪🏼
Geriatrics rounds ✔️ Only 1 more exam & night of stress + snacks between ya homegirl & the weekend 😭 I hope you have a great Thursday!!! Let me know what you like to keep in your white coat pockets, what you're up to today, what you love about your dog, etc 👇🏻😂 I love getting to know y'all!!! ❤️
3 More Nights left. I remember 15+ years ago when I started working in healthcare, I was taught a very important lesson by a very seasoned nurse. This lesson taught me that before I walk into my patients rooms - ask myself one question: "How would I want someone to treat me?"... and often, the best approach to a patient can be achieved living by that good old fashioned motto. Drop your favorite lesson learned from someone more senior than you here in the comments, and you will be entered into a giveaway from both @nursegrid and @cherokeeuniforms next week 🚨
You always hear growing up, "if you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life". Well, I finally understand that. I dont dread going to work. I dont work merely for a paycheck. I dont wait for the weekend so I dont have to be at "work" anymore. I dont sing the TGIF song. Granted, my soul needs a break from that which I see and do. But I dont go to 'work'. Rather, I feed my passion. My friends, live your life from your heart. Share from your heart. And your story will touch and heal people's souls.
Woke up late & my body's literally screaming at me to go back to bed 😂 But we're here, we're up, and we're ready to tackle the day 👍🏻 Don't let falling behind schedule discourage you from still doing what you need to do. Change your expectations, but never your goal. Have a great Monday family! ❤️👯 Let me know what you're up to today 👇🏻
New scrubs make any day better..even a Monday! The week has just started and I'm ready to have my most productive week yet. The ability to bounce back is vital to being successful. Something happen that you weren't expecting? That's life, it happens! But the question is, are you willing to shake it off, learn from it and move forward? I know this is easier said than done, I've been there. But I chose to let nothing stand in the way of my goal! Make this week great everyone. Just think, you're one week closer to reaching your goal 🙌🏾
The first #stethoscope is a rite of passage. From student to practitioner. It has immeasurable value. For me, it represented overcoming my personal trials and all the odds that were stacked against me to pass boards and finally practice. Not to mention the grueling task of finding employment as a new graduate when every employer demanded experience(that logic literally makes zero sense). But alas, we made it..#Alhamdulilah! How about you, can you relate? #riseabove #realnursetalk

@candiicane87 and I looking really cute in our PPE before our surgical rotation. Who else wants to boycott hospital scrubs and replace them all with @cherokeeuniforms all in favor of this, comment below 😂😂. No, but seriously, how horrible are these scrubs? Thank God I love the ER and am lucky enough to wear any scrubs I want 🤗🤗🤗
So- here on my last few weeks of night shift, I'm precepting a new NP and 1 student. Let us never forget that we all have a day 1, a first job, and a first year. Be good to the new people. Be stringent, and be stern when you have to, but more importantly, show them your tricks, teach them, and welcome them with a positive attitude. Be the person you wanted on your first day.
