"Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive."
- Howard Thurman

“I truly believe that fear is the only thing that holds us back in life. If we are willing to connect with that fear without the thoughts behind it, we can see that fear is just a feeling in our body. What has helped me move through my fears is to acknowledge the presence of it in my body & breathe through the sensation- instead of avoiding it & letting my mind take me on the path of catastrophizing (“What will they think?” or “What is going to happen?” etc)

I believe one of the best skills we can master in this life is having control over our thoughts & emotions, because we ultimately control our own destiny.”

I want to dedicate today's post to my father, who has been my greatest teacher on so many levels. Pictured here is his graduation for his PhD in nuclear physics (with me) & us both at my med school graduation. He later went on to get his post-doctorate in medical physics & inspired me to go into the medical field. ---
I recently asked him about quantum physics & what he thought about a positive mind creating a positive life, and he agreed with me wholeheartedly. He is also a testament to that as he was able to come out of a life of poverty & create a comfortable life for our family in a new country through his hard work. He taught me the importance of an education & to enjoy the little things in life. He didn't pass the physics gene onto me though (but helped get me through it in college lol...) ---
Happy Fathers Day to the smartest, most generous, humble & handiest man I know, my Daddy... and to all the wonderful fathers out there😍

“Our beliefs are self-fulfilling & we have the choice to decide to act out of fear or peace. This is where soul searching comes in- you find the subconscious fears that have been dictating your life & do the work to transform them. You know you’re doing it right when you are happy with what you see in your reality. How empowering?!

It takes a lot of practice & I still get caught up in old patterns but it feels great when I can bring myself back to a calm space. Then I can take the actions that will help me get to where I want. Life is really about accepting & breathing through each moment. —-
So my question for you is, what sets your soul on fire?”

One of the most significant things that I have learned as a doctor, is the importance of nature in medicine. Human beings have inherent healing capabilities & healers are here to help bring such forces to light.

A surgeon may remove a tumor & a primary care doctor may prescribe a medication, but ultimately it's the human body's homeostatic mechanisms that take over. What a humbling yet empowering concept!

It's something many renowned physicians knew, from Hippocrates to Paracelsus, but has been lost in modern society. This doesn't mean that we sit back and be passive, however! Healing is a process that occurs through a team effort between healer, patient & greater natural forces.

Let's not forget the endless benefits of being outdoors or how our health is affected by our environment!

So grateful for this generous/beautiful gift from @allheartscrubs: A Littman stethoscope- Black with Champagne finish (I feel like that could be a song title/lyric of some sort LOL.) I especially love the note that came with it. It says to:

“Try not to resist the changes that come your way. Instead let life live through you. And do not worry that your life is turning upside down. How do you know that the side you are used to is better than the one to come?” -Rumi

The hand I am holding belongs to one of the nicest patients/people I have ever met. Despite being in her 90s with multiple medical problems, she always asks me about how I am doing. It's interactions with patients like her that make me feel like I chose the right career.

“Don’t give up & always try to see the silver lining.”
